Dopamine Colours at Home
Eve LynchShare
Let’s talk about dopamine colours - a trend that’s all about feeling good through bold, unapologetic hues. Think zesty yellows, electric blues, and punchy pinks. These colours don’t just brighten your walls—they can boost your mood, energise your space, and make your home your favourite place to be.
As someone who's rented a lot of crappy rooms and moved around a lot I understand the impact not being in love with your space can have on your mental health and the way I always fix this is with colour, prints and trinkets!
Let’s Get Scientific 💁🏼♀️
Bright, saturated colours stimulate the brain, triggering feel-good emotions. Warm tones like oranges and yellows are uplifting and energizing, while cool tones like turquoise and lilac bring calming, joyful vibes. Adding these colours to your home can enhance creativity, improve focus, and even reduce stress, and who couldn't use a bit of that?
Start Your Colourful Journey
If you're renting like me you probably can't start painting statement walls and you may not be ready to commit to that dream green sofa but there are lots of other ways to bring colour into your white box room. Here are some of my favourites,
- Prints - This is an obvious one, and maybe a little biased coming from me but surely there is no better way! Prints are affordable, versatile and easy to swap out if you want to change things up. Personally I love a gallery wall mish mash of clashing prints but you may want to dot a few bold statement pieces around. This is also the perfect opportunity to play with frames, keep it chic with a thin wooden frame or use this as an opportunity to add more colour with bold statement frames (can you tell I'm a more is more kinda gal?)
- Soft Furnishings - We're talking bedding, blankets, cushions, rugs. Bring colours onto your furniture so you don't need to buy colourful furniture
- Trinkets - I'm a collector of all things tiny and cute so my room is scattered with little mementos from trips, crafted bits and scrapbooking gold if I ever bought a scrapbook. These little pieces bring me joy and when styled properly make your room more you but be careful this doesn't turn into a hoarding garbage situation.
- Flowers and Plants - Single? Who cares, buy yourself those flowers. The key thing here is to buy a pretty vase that looks good empty because it's tough out here and we don't always have flower money. If you're a serial plant murderer this may not be the one for you but I love plants (I used to work in a plant shop and florest) and they can add so much life and dimension to your space. Also plants mean fun colourful pots so it's a win win.
So what have we learnt today kids?
Dopamine colours aren’t just about aesthetics - they’re about creating a home that makes you feel happy, motivated, creative and your fullest self. Maybe this is all your worst nightmare and you love the beige clean-girl aesthetic and that is fine if that's bringing you joy, just no matter what just make your space for you.
